The Engineering Division of the Hayward Public Works Department will hold a virtual town hall meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, June 22, to discuss and receive feedback on two approaches to making changes on downtown Main Street. The proposals are part of the city council’s Complete Streets Strategic Initiative, which calls for an integrated network to accommodate motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and users of public transportation.

The proposals call for reducing the roadway from four to two traffic lanes, adding bulb outs (or curb extensions), new curb ramps, widened sidewalks, a reorientation of parking spaces to provide door-zone protection for cyclists, re-striping, resurfacing and sustainably landscaped sidewalk buffers.

For more information, go to the Main Street Complete Streets Project page on the City of Hayward website. To join the virtual town hall, go to the event listing here on the city’s online calendar, where Zoom log-in information will be posted at noon on Monday, June 22.
